On 2/17/2007, volunteers from the Central Florida WW2 Museum participated in a cruise on the Victory
ship -
SS American Victory.  The SS American Victory is the only restored Victory Class merchant cargo vessel
on the East Coast and one of only three of the 534 cargo vessels built during World War II still sailing.

The
SS American Victory has been restored in honor of the brave men who served on the ship and in the
Merchant Marine during peacetime and conflicts from World War II to Vietnam.

The deck guns were employed for defense, but would have been no threat against submerged German

The remains of Captain Bob Valentine were put to rest during a memorial service performed in his honor.
Captain Bob Valentine served with the US Merchant Marine on Victory ships during World War II and
also held commissions in the Coast Guard and Navy Reserve.  He was an avid supporter and volunteer to
the
SS American Victory.  The following are photographs from his memorial service.

Captain Valentine possessed a vast personal knowledge of Victory ships and the
Merchant Marine.  He was an asset to the restoration of the
SS American Victory
and his service and support to this element of history will be sorely missed.
