Every year re-enactors portraying Allied and Axis soldiers set up at Ft. DeSoto Park in remembrance of the
soldiers who stormed the beaches of Normandy in the invasion of Northern France on D-Day, June 6, 1944.
D-Day marked the end of Hitler's reign in Europe.  While the German Army had been losing ground prior to
June 6, 1944, all was not seen as lost in the eyes of the German command until the Allies gained a foothold
in the West.  Once the Allies established themselves in France, the Germans were caught in a vice between
American, British, Canadian, Polish & French forces in the West and South and the Russian army in the East.
All could see that it was only be a matter of time before the war would finally end.
